Hi,

I have found that ntp is not starting consistently, checking the logs
to day ntp is core dumping on start up, however disabling and enabling
ntp does start normally.

[ Sep 13 14:25:31 Executing start method ("/lib/svc/method/ntp start"). ]
[ Sep 13 14:25:31 Method "start" exited with status 0. ]
[ Sep 13 14:32:08 Stopping because process dumped core. ]
[ Sep 13 14:32:08 Executing stop method (:kill). ]
[ Sep 13 14:32:08 Restarting too quickly, changing state to maintenance. ]
[ Sep 13 15:21:37 Leaving maintenance because disable requested. ]
[ Sep 13 15:21:37 Disabled. ]
[ Sep 13 15:21:43 Enabled. ]
[ Sep 13 15:21:43 Executing start method ("/lib/svc/method/ntp start"). ]
[ Sep 13 15:21:43 Method "start" exited with status 0. ]

Hi,

can it be an instance of https://www.illumos.org/issues/9705? Which NTP version do you run? Are there any other logs about the crash?

I've been seeing the same issue for months with ntp. The version I'm
running reports 4.2.8p10 (4.2.8.10 for pkg info).

I'm 3-4 months behind current for hipster, so I don't know if it's been
fixed recently. I'm blocked from updating my main system until there's
a fix for the VirtualBox crash.
